BULLYACHE

BULLYACHE is a London-based music duo & dance company whose work traverses pop-culture, classical text & opera- think Pina Bausch cosplaying as Dua Lipa, performing albums as theatre works. Bullyache is in their parents’ makeup, flashing between acoustic and rave somnambulism while feeling comfortable in neither, a hyper regurgitation of capital expectations.

TOM is a work that blends the myth of Orpheus with the Department Work and Pensions. It’s a pop-culture collision of working class and queer expression. A conflicting space of tradition & lived experience, personal & pop.

BULLYACHE comments “We make dance theatre doom pop. TOM is the greatest hits of our crippling anxiety and ridiculous ambition, it's the most interesting live work you’ll see. We employ our friends, who happen to be world class artists, performers, creatives and designers from Gold Medalists to Dua Lipa dancers and Tim Walker muses, fighting, fucking, living, laughing, loving. We want the experience to feel like subconscious scrolling through a TikTok feed. Our work is a melodramatic, deconstructed pageant of exhaustion. Faggotry, pop music, slutty nijinsky & commercial-dancing. It feels fun but also feels like something we just have to do. TOM is important to us because it’s how we relate to the world, it’s two working class artists making live music videos about their life, when we’re doing it’s just intuitive. As Kim Cattral said once “We just have a rhythm you know... he sort of feels me out and I feel him out and uh, we go for it”
